SJAC is organized to support grassroots community organizing and provide low-income housing in central Portland. We have four main programs: 1) Managing a community space for events and meetings. 2) Coordinating a community kitchen. 3) Developing community organizing and education. 4) Offering low-income housing.
SJAC is a grassroots non-profit (501c3 status) organization with no paid organizers or staff and we consist of Board of Directors, Advisory Council and Coordinating Committee.
SJAC prioritizes the leadership of marginalized communities, especially those of color. In particular, we recognize the sovereignty of indigenous peoples of this land, such as the Multnomah and other Chinookan villages of the confluence of these great rivers and the Kalapuya and Wasco peoples in the nearby hills and valleys (some of whose descendants are now part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, of Siletz, and of Warm Springs).
The SJAC Coordinating Committee ensures that our working groups (scheduling, maintenance, admin, outreach, programs, fundraising) implement the guidance of the Board of Directors and Advisory Council.
