In memory of Stu Crazybull

It is with heavy heart that we share the news of Stuart Crazybull’s death.

Stu was a deeply generous and committed man. He was a stalwart of the House of Wovoka, the Native drumming and singing group that has met on Wednesday nights as the very first, and longest-running event at SJAC. Even as his health began to fail, he was always kindly and creatively looking for ways to support new leadership.

Stu’s generosity flowed in all directions. After the death of his friend (and my teacher) Robert Dancing Hawk Van Pelt, Stu invited me several times to sweat with him out near Mollala. He welcomed me into that ceremonial community, and I saw there too how his unfailing commitment helped it in times of challenge.

He leaves a hole in so many of our hearts. As he would wish, let’s fill it with good will and good care.
